Unity in the Community is excited to return another year to continue its tradition of honoring the teaching and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the Annual Dr. MLK Jr. Art, Oratorical and Essay Competition.
Established as a way to encourages the development of research, art, writing and oratory skills of the many gifted children in Ennis, Texas. The students' speeches and art not only address how Dr. King impacts today's world but also illustrate how his words continue to affect their lives and inspire their daily perspectives.

The 2018 competition will be held Friday, Jan. 12, and will mark the 16th anniversary. Students Kindergarten through Fifth-grade will recite selected poems; Sixth-grade through Twelfth-grade students will deliver original three-to-five minute speeches or art interpretation, incorporating ideas from Dr. King’s writings, speeches and other records, to elaborate on, “Stepping Beyond the Challenge"
