Community Profile

Ennis is a thriving Texas community of 23,000. Our unique downtown architecture is recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, and as a community we seek to retain the historic charm of the turn of the century through a variety of festivals and beautification programs. The red brick of Main Street is lined with festive banners, native trees, turn-of-the-century lights, and park benches placed outside antique shops.

Our civic pride is showcased in the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum.  The building was constructed in 1915 and originally served as a restaurant and train depot.  In 1992 the building was renovated and turned into a museum to reflect the "golden age" of railroading. Attractive oak and brass furnishings surround a fascinating collection of train memorabilia and contemporary photo displays of historic Ennis.

Ennis is a nurturing place.  We grow and support a productive, motivated and well educated citizenry.

Quality public education is a top priority… Ennis boasts award winning public schools. All elementary schools are currently rated either "Recognized" or "Exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Higher education opportunities abound.  No less than 40 universities and five community colleges are located within a 60 minute drive of  Ennis.

Healthcare in Ennis is unsurpassed with a new 60 bed hospital that is widely recognized for emergency care, diagnostic services and medical/surgical procedures.

Ennis is just 30 minutes from a true “World Class” civic and cultural  center (the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex), yet a world away from big-city cares.  We enjoy professional sports provided by Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League.  We find ample opportunity for artistic expression in the Metroplex with symphony, opera, and museum offerings that are unparalleled.  Yet, our community provides us security and peace of mind with a low crime rate, a high quality of life and a leisurely pace of living.
