The City Secretary is a statutory position required by Texas law and the City Charter. The City Secretary is appointed by the Mayor and City Commission and reports directly to the Mayor.
The City Secretary's Office serves as a vital link between the City Commission, City Staff, and the public. The office supports the official business of the City Commission, maintains the City's official records, administers municipal elections, coordinates public information requests, and performs a variety of administrative and regulatory functions on behalf of the City.
Responsibilities of the City Secretary's Office
Providing administrative and staff support to the Mayor and City Commission.
Preparing and providing required notice of City Commission meetings and attending meetings to prepare and maintain the official minutes.
Certifying and attesting official City documents and affixing the City Seal to documents including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other official records.
Serving as the City's Records Management Officer and overseeing the management, retention, and preservation of municipal records.
Serving as the City's Public Information Officer and coordinating requests for public information in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act.
Serving as the City's Elections Administrator and coordinating municipal elections in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
Maintaining and coordinating updates to the City's Code of Ordinances.
Reviewing and certifying Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) applications on behalf of the City.
Processing and issuing solicitor permits.
Administering the collection and reporting of the City's Hotel Occupancy Tax.
