Livestock

 

Any person raising or keeping livestock (horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, donkeys, emu, ostriches, mules etc.) in a residentially zoned district as defined by City Ordinance must ensure the area is maintained in a sanitary condition so as to not become offensive and/or cause a nuisance to the adjacent  residents:

  • Livestock must be kept in enclosures, pens, sheds  at least two hundred fifty (250) feet from an inhabited dwelling.  This distance requirement does not apply to the dwelling of the owner. Enclosures must be of construction and strength to keep animals from running at large.
  • Cleaned up manure or refuse must be promptly removed from the vicinity after each cleaning

Note:  The City of Ennis Department of Health Services provides assistance to the Ellis County Sheriff's Department with Loose Livestock within the City of Ennis during normal business hours.
