Planning and Zoning Commission and Commissioners

The powers, duties, organization, and procedures of the Planning and Zoning Commission are established in the Ennis Unified Development Ordinance, adopted in 2018, Article 2, Section 2.3. The Commission’s responsibilities include providing analysis and recommendations to the City Commission regarding the Comprehensive Plan and other plans related to land use, thoroughfares, infrastructure, open space, recreation, and long‑range growth policy, as directed by the City Commission. The Commission also reviews and makes recommendations on proposed amendments to the Ordinance and the zoning map.

The Commission meets on an as‑needed basis on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are held at City Hall, located at 107 N. Sherman St., Ennis, TX 75119.

Membership and Appointment 

The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of seven (7) regular members and two (2) alternate members, all of whom must be residents of the City of Ennis and are selected for their demonstrated commitment to civic service. Appointments to fill expiring terms are made annually by the City Commission during its regular April meeting, or as soon thereafter as practicable, for two‑year terms. New terms customarily begin in August of each year.
