The Planning and Zoning Commission's powers and duties, organization, and procedures are enumerated in the Ennis Unified Development Ordinance, Adopted in 2018, Article 2, Section 2.3. The Commission's duties include providing analysis and recommendations as requested by the City Commission regarding the Comprehensive Plan and other plans related to land use, thoroughfares, infrastructure, open space and recreation and related long-range growth policy per City Commission’s direction; and amendments to this Ordinance and to the zoning map.
The Commission meets the Second (2nd) and Fourth (4th) Mondays of each month, on an as needed basis, at 6PM.
Membership and Appointment
The Planning and Zoning Commission is composed of seven (7) members and two (2) alternate members, all of whom are residents in the City of Ennis, and are selected for their outstanding and unselfish interest in civic affairs. Annually, at the regular meeting of the City Commission held during the month of April or as soon thereafter as practicable, expiring memberships will be filled by appointment for a term of two (2) years. The standard appointment date for new terms is August of each calendar year.
