Hotel Occupancy Tax

The City of Ennis imposes a 7% Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) on the price paid for the use or possession of a room or other qualifying lodging accommodation within the City.

Hotels and other lodging establishments subject to the tax are responsible for collecting the tax from guests and submitting the required quarterly Hotel Occupancy Tax report and payment to the City Secretary's Office.

Use of Hotel Occupancy Tax Revenue

Hotel Occupancy Tax revenue is restricted by state law and must be used to promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry in accordance with Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code.

Authorized uses may include tourism advertising and promotion, convention and visitor services, arts and cultural programs, historical preservation projects, and other tourism-related programs and activities that meet the requirements of state law.

Quarterly Reporting and Payment

Hotel Occupancy Tax reports and payments are due to the City on a quarterly basis. Completed reports and payments should be submitted to the City Secretary's Office.

For questions regarding the submission of a quarterly Hotel Occupancy Tax report or payment, please contact the City Secretary's Office.
