Public Information is any information that is collected, maintained, or assembled by or for a governmental entity, regardless of format. The Texas Public Information Act Handbook, published by the Office of the Texas Attorney General, provides comprehensive information regarding access to governmental records under the Texas Public Information Act. The handbook also explains the rights and responsibilities of both requestors and governmental bodies throughout the public information request process.
How do I obtain Public Information?
Public information requests should include a clear and specific description of the records being requested so that City staff can accurately identify and locate responsive information.
The Texas Public Information Act requires the City to provide access to existing records; however, the City is not required to create new records, perform research, or answer questions in response to a public information request.
Requestors are encouraged to provide complete and accurate contact information, including their name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address, to ensure the City can communicate regarding the request when necessary.
Requests that are extensive or require significant staff time may be subject to charges as permitted by law. When applicable, the City will provide the requestor with an itemized estimate of charges before proceeding, and a deposit may be required for certain requests.
