Who must register as a sex offender?

The following people are required to register in the State of Texas:

Any person with a reportable conviction occurring on or after September 1, 1970, shall have a duty to register. 

A person convicted of a non-Texas offense that contains elements substantially similar to an offense that requires registration in Texas shall have a duty to register.

Offenders are required to register with local law enforcement in the jurisdiction where they live. Offenders living in Ennis are required to register and periodically verify the accuracy of their registration information and to promptly report any change in the information to the Ennis Police Department.

An offender who fails to comply with any registration requirement is subject to felony prosecution.

Offenders Moving to Ennis: What do I need to know?

City of Ennis City Ordinance, Article III (Chapter 9-50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55) restricts locations where an offender may reside within City limits. Please view the Emergency Services Public Web Map | Ennis to check the address before moving.

Addresses within 1500 feet of restricted locations are highlighted in pink, indicating an offender may not reside there. The Ennis Police Department Sex Offender Registrar will verify the location is in compliance with City ordinance upon registration and verification.
