Planning and Zoning Commission and Commissioners

Authority
The powers, duties, organization, and procedures of the Planning and Zoning Commission are defined in the Ennis Unified Development Ordinance, adopted in 2018, Article 2, Section 2.3. The Commission provides analysis and recommendations to the City Commission on the Comprehensive Plan and related plans addressing land use, thoroughfares, infrastructure, open space, recreation, and long‑range growth policy. It also reviews and makes recommendations on proposed amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance and the official zoning map.

Meeting Schedule
The Commission meets on an as‑needed basis on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. and the Commission meetings are held at City Hall, 107 N. Sherman Street, Ennis, TX 75119.

Membership and Appointment
The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of seven regular members and two alternate members, all of whom must be residents of the City of Ennis and demonstrate a strong commitment to civic service.
Appointments to expiring terms are made annually by the City Commission during its regular April meeting, or as soon thereafter as practicable, for two‑year terms. New terms typically begin in August of each year.
